Is Steam Really Necessary for a Facial? How the Best Part is the Most Important to Get Results

Using steam during facials is completely option and can be used for a number of reasons.

I love using steam during facials because it helps soften the skin which in turn helps me with extractions

Steam helps product penetration. The combination of heat and water can make you feel the sensation of the mask or enzyme. When your skin feels prickly or warm that means we are increasing the circulation in the skin. This alone contributes to a deeper glow so early in the treatment.

So much so that I don’t use steam on everyone because I don’t want my clients with sensitive skin to have such a deep sensation when applying products.

I also notice a huge difference in the facial results specifically with extractions on clients that don’t have a prior skin routine and are looking to get extractions done.

Its also a great alternative for hot towels. I dont like using hot towels on super inflammted facials or even on mens beard areas because it causes friction in the skin

Although small rubbing towels on the face is exfoliation so I would rather use steam and a sponge to remove products versus a hot towel

Because we live in Arizona I’ll use steam to put moisture in the air before I apply ingredients like hyaluronic acid. Any humectant has one job, and that is to draw moisture from the air to hydrate the skin when environmental humidity is above 50%. However, in dry environments, it can pull moisture from the skin's deeper layers instead, potentially causing dehydration.

You may have heard me say it best to apply hyaluronic acid after the shower and its for this very reason.

Steam is an optional enhancement for facials and a way I am able to full customize your facial routine to either reduce redness by not using steam or increase the rate at which product is absorbed into the skin.
